Our approach

Malan invests in personnel, technology, and information systems to stay agile. We continuously evaluate the quality of our work and adapt to the changing context by exploring new approaches. Malan’s review process encompasses the gathering and scrutiny of both primary and secondary data. Customizable and tested MEL products and software solutions tailored to client requirements, incorporating platforms, using KoboToolbox, ODK, Survey123, SurveyCTO, and visualization tools. Our experts have honed analytical thinking and refined data analysis techniques through years of practice to ensure robust results. Our research approach is segmented into two distinct phases: design and implementation.

Design
In this phase, we collaborate closely with our partners to comprehend their needs and goals. This collaboration informs our expert recommendations on the optimal sampling design and methodology. The process we employ includes:
- Defining assignment objectives and crafting a comprehensive methodology
- Assessing the accessibility of the targeted respondents
- Tailoring the study to the most local level achievable
- Translating and quality-assuring
- Conducting a pilot test of the methodology
Implementation
Our field teams acquire precise and extensive data from designated sampled areas or populations in the implementation phase. This involves testing the survey tool, training staff, and performing rigorous quality assessments on the data collected. Complemented by statistical weightings (where applicable), the final data and reports can be delivered in the desired format. The data stage consists of these steps:
- Adapt and test the instruments in our data collection software;
- Train the field team;
- Enforce in-field quality control mechanism;
- Monitor regular updates on the achieved sample plan;
- Process data regularly;
- Clean and code the data;
- Analyze data;
- Deliver finalized data and reports.
